A Fowl Christmas.

A Fowl Christmas.

We’d all settled in, on that dark Christmas night,

When a clatter so loud, on the roof, gave me fright,

I said to my wife go out and to look,

She said I was crazy and kept reading her book,

She layed on the bed in her red christmas gown,

I could tell she was serious by the look of her frown;

I pulled on my slippers, tripped, and fell down,

My wife stood there giggling, like watching a clown,

I climbed to my feet and rubbed my sore hiney,

My wife scoffed at the bruise as she said it was tiny;

So I ran out the door with my wife close behind,

The source of the noise, we both hoped we’d find,

I shivererd and shook as I looked all around,

I looked at my wife and said nothing had been found;

She replied I was silly, hearing the limbs of a pine,

I couldn’t argue much for I’d had a bit of the wine,

The festive season was beginning to take hold,

I looked at my wife and considered being bold;

Ma looks real festive in that gown, I was thinkin,

When I looked on the roof……….It was the Christmas Chicken!!

His feathers they flew as he pecked on the roof,

He went down the chimney and up came a POOF!

I’d built us a fire to hold back the cold,

but the christmas chicken, wasn’t smart nor too old,

His bag with our presents was cooked to a cinder,

but we made out ok, with a big chicken dinner.

Merry Christmas everyone! I’m obviously not a poet, but I hope this helped you smile.

I was born and raised in Kansas as part of a family of 7 children. My father was a minister in the United Methodist Church for 50 years. We moved, consequently, every few years to a new church. Each new location became a new chapter in the journey. I have had the privilege of knowing so many different people from varying backgrounds. I wanted to share some of the stories and adventures I have had.

    1. You never know, the Christmas Chicken flies all over the world, though not very well! He may flop his way over to Saudi.
